Is Gymnastics Right for Your Child?
Research consistently shows that many children today do not get enough physical activity. This lack of movement often leads to decreased fitness levels and childhood obesity, which can continue into adulthood.
Gymnastics and related activities provide an outstanding movement foundation for children of all ages. Tumbling builds muscular strength and flexibility. Balance beam work improves coordination, balance, and focus. Bar skills develop upper body strength. Vaulting enhances speed and power. When used safely, trampoline activities improve cardiovascular endurance, balance, and spatial awareness. Together, these activities promote overall muscular coordination and body control.
As children grow older or participate in more advanced or competitive training, gymnastics offers even greater benefits. Athletes develop important life skills including self control, concentration, perseverance, self discipline, and confidence.
Gymnastics provides a unique opportunity for both physical and emotional growth. Children gain strength, flexibility, grace, poise, and powerful movement while also learning valuable personal lessons through practice and performance, such as:
• The value and rewards of hard work
• The thrill of accomplishment
• The importance of self confidence
• Increased self esteem
• Learning to manage fear
• Developing courage
• Practicing self control
Many parents report that gymnastics has positively impacted their child’s academic performance. The focus, discipline, determination, and ability to concentrate required in gymnastics are the same skills that support success in the classroom.
Gymnastics is more than a sport. It is a foundation for lifelong fitness, confidence, and character development.
